Corewell Health has added visitor restrictions at its Southeast Michigan hospitals amid a rise in respiratory illnesses, hospital officials said.

Under the new guidelines, only two people are allowed to be with a patient during the day, and one person is permitted to be with them overnight.

The restrictions went into effect on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, at the following hospitals:

  • Corewell Health Beaumont Grosse Pointe Hospital
  • Corewell Health Dearborn Hospital
  • Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital
  • Corewell Health Trenton Hospital
  • Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital
  • Corewell Health Wayne Hospital
  • Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital

The restrictions apply to patients and birthing mothers in pediatric inpatient units, pediatric ICU, neonatal ICU and birthing and postpartum units.

Hospital officials say patients giving birth can have one birthing partner and one additional visitor with them.

To prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses, Corewell Health officials recommend the following:

  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Get vaccinated against influenza, whooping cough, RSV and COVID-19.

Detroit Medical Center has also issued visitor restrictions due to a rise in flu cases.

The following guidelines are in effect for all DMC facilities, including Children’s Hospital of Michigan:

  • All patients are allowed up to two visitors at any one time.
  • Visitors ages 12 and under, including siblings and other relatives, will not be allowed on inpatient hospital floors or in the observation units.
  • Visitors ages 13 and over who have a fever, cough or rash are asked to choose another time to visit. This applies to both private and semi-private rooms. If hospitals have policies that are more restrictive than the proposed guidelines, they will continue to use them.
  • Visitors who exhibit illness or cold symptoms are encouraged to visit during a period of wellness.
