Detroit man arrested in hit-and-run crash that killed off-duty police officer

Incident occurred on Jan. 5 around 12:05 a.m.

DETROIT – Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Dayjon Antwian Macon, 28, of Detroit, in connection with a car crash that killed off-duty Detroit police officer Cameron Richardson, 32.

The incident occurred on Jan. 5, 2025, around 12:05 a.m., while driving southbound on Hoover Street near Greiner Street in Detroit.

Allegedly, Macon struck Richardson’s vehicle, which was driving northbound on Hoover Street, before fleeing the scene.

Medics arrived on the scene and pronounced Officer Richardson deceased.

An investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of Macon on Jan. 6, 2025.

Macon has been charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault, causing death, failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing serious impairment or death, moving violation causing death, and driving while license suspended.

Macon was arraigned Thursday afternoon after 2:30 p.m. in 36th District Court.
