FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Popular gas station chain Sheetz is making waves in Metro Detroit. When Sheetz opened its first location in Romulus, customers lined up out the door to experience it.
However, residents in another community sent a clear message to the chain: stay away.
Sheetz wants to open a new location in Farmington Hills at 12 Mile and Middle Belt roads. The location would be open 24 hours a day and offer a drive-thru.
But, some residents have concerns over traffic and the impact on surrounding businesses.
There was standing room only at Monday’s (Jan. 13) council meeting, with 49 people waiting to speak out, mostly against this proposed Sheetz.
If you haven’t been to one yet, Sheetz is a gas station with a lot more to it.
Each store has a full kitchen that serves made-to-order food 24 hours a day.
The Sheetz in question would be located at 12 Mile Road and Middlebelt if approved.
It would cost $8.5 million to build and would create anywhere from 30-35 local jobs.
Farmington Hills residents have their concerns.
Residents spoke to Local 4 to talk about how worried they are about increased traffic and those around-the-clock hours.
“As a family owned and operated company, Sheetz strives to be the best neighbor we can be in every community we serve, and we look forward to continued dialogue.
We remain steadfast in our mission to create quality jobs with excellent benefits and make a meaningful difference in every community we serve."
