KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Police body camera footage captured the chaotic moments when an officer helped someone escape a deadly fire in Kalamazoo.
According to authorities, emergency crews were dispatched to an apartment complex just before 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 12, on reports of heavy smoke and alarms sounding.
Bodycam footage captured a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety sergeant arriving at the scene and quickly jumping into action to help a man climb from a second-floor window. The sergeant was able to help the man get safely to the ground.

The fire was extinguished at about 8 p.m.
The body of a 79-year-old woman was recovered from the building.
