A winter weather advisory was issued for Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties Tuesday morning.
The advisory is in effect until 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14. 1-3″ of snow accumulation is possible in the Metro Detroit area, with some places seeing higher snowfall totals where bands of snow are more intense through Tuesday afternoon.
The sweet spot for the heaviest snow is between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Some of the high-resolution data on Tuesday morning shows that lake effect snow bands will set up between the I-96 and I-94 corridors through most of the day on Tuesday. These bands could be locally intense and drop snow in a short period of time. Therefore, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the central portions of the viewing area through 2 p.m. Tuesday.
These snow bands could reduce visibility in a short period of time and produce snow accumulations also in a short period of time. 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible through Tuesday Afternoon in the Winter Weather Advisory in Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. Outside of that, expect up to an inch of snow accumulation.
Another arctic blast moves in looking ahead into the middle of next week, with highs on Tuesday into the lower 20s and overnight lows into the low teens and single digits; we will see a gradual warm-up looking ahead into the end of next week. The snow showers will wind down by Tuesday night and will keep a few flakes into the forecast on Wednesday.
