Dangerously cold temperatures are in the forecast for Southeast Michigan next week.

National Weather Service meteorologists say the coldest air of the season is expected to arrive early next week, and released a day-by-day breakdown of the current forecast.

Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025

Lows: 8 to 12°

Highs: 15 to 20°

Wind chills: 0 to +8°

Monday, Jan. 20, 2025

Lows: -2 to +2°

Highs: 8 to 11°

Wind chills: -10 to -15°

Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025

Lows: -8 to -2°

Highs: 5 to 10°

Wind chills: -10 to -20°

Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025

Lows: -4 to +2°

Highs: 14 to 18°

Wind chills: zero to -10°

The National Weather Service says there is a 90% likelihood of these below-normal temperatures between Jan. 20 and Jan. 24.

People should limit their time outdoors, wear hats, gloves and scarves and cover all exposed skin.

In addition, people are encouraged to check on their elderly neighbors and friends during these dangerously cold weather conditions.

Snowfall timeline

Before we see those extremely cold temperatures next week, Metro Detroit is expected to see more snow.

We will likely get about a half-inch of snow on Thursday. The snow is expected to begin around 5 to 6 a.m. and last until about noon.

After that, a mix of rain and snow could affect driving conditions for drivers on Saturday, Jan. 18.
