OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A veteran cemetery is asking volunteers to help clean up gravesites on Saturday.

Previous coverage: Nonprofit calling for volunteers to help lay wreaths at Great Lakes National Cemetery

Now that the holidays are over, Great Lakes National Cemetery, located off Belford Road in Holly, will be picking up wreaths that were laid for the holidays in late 2024, among other items, beginning at 9 a.m. on Jan. 18, 2025.

For those who have loved ones buried at the cemetery and wish to keep the items they left on gravesites, the cemetery said it must be picked up before Jan. 18.

The cemetery said volunteers are encouraged to come and help. Volunteers do not have to bring anything, but the cemetery highly recommends that everyone dress warm and wear gloves. No sign-up is necessary, and unlike the wreath-laying event in November, volunteers are welcome to park at the cemetery.

There will also be dumpsters throughout the cemetery for volunteers to toss out the items left on gravesites.
