PONTIAC, Mich. – A man who got a call from a friend who needed a ride after stealing $12,000 from a coworker in Oakland County is accused of shooting that friend and taking some of the money.
Money stolen from coworker
Oakland County officials said Arthur Crayton, 25, of Pontiac, robbed a coworker of $12,000 on Jan. 10, 2025.
Crayton called an acquaintance, Jamarieai Desean Burns, while he was leaving the area, police said. Crayton asked Burns for a ride, according to Oakland County deputies.
Robber shot by driver
Burns, 30, of Pontiac, is accused of showing up and taking $4,000 of the stolen money from Crayton.
He then shot Crayton in the right hip, according to authorities.
Charges
Crayton has been charged with larceny in a building. He faces up to four years in prison, if convicted.
Burns is charged with assault with intent to murder, armed robbery, and three felony weapons charges. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison on the assault with intent to murder charge, if convicted.
Officials said Burns has a previous armed robbery conviction and was on parole. He was not allowed to carry a gun, they said.
“The victim will be prosecuted for his own alleged crimes, but those crimes don’t justify what happened to him,” Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said.
