HURON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Huron Township Police Department warns residents to be vigilant as overnight thefts targeting vehicles and homes have increased.

Officials say they have received reports of increased thefts over the past few weeks.

On Jan. 8, 2025, Huron Township officials said they sent multiple alerts to remind residents to lock their vehicles and residences.

At that time, they did not publish the exact area where the thefts occurred because they said they wanted the entire community to remain vigilant.

Officials said they had reports regarding some of the thefts in some areas; they were confident that many of them were not reported by residents, mostly because of the minimal amount of property taken.

Since Dec. 9, 2024, Huron Township police said they’ve had 14 reported larcenies involving motor vehicles which involved unlocked vehicles.

Officials recommend removing garage door openers from your vehicles and locking interior doors that lead from an attached garage into your residence.
