Officials said that upon arrival, Warren Fire apparatus and fire crews were met by light grey smoke coming from the building. Employees stood outside the building, indicating that an equipment coating machine had malfunctioned and caught fire.
Crews found two other employees attempting to exit the building with burns to their upper body.
The employees indicated they were injured attempting to extinguish the flames before the crews arrived.
Crews said they were able to extinguish the flames while the employees were removed from the building and treated for their burn injuries prior to transporting both to Metro Detroit hospitals for definitive care.
Officials say the first employee, who is a man, received non-life-threatening 2nd-degree burns to his left arm and shoulder and was transported to St. John Macomb Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The second employee, who too is a man, received burns to both sides of his face and neck with no airway involvement and was also rapidly transported to St. John Main Hospital in Detroit, where he is also being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials say both men are expected to remain in the hospital for an unknown period of time, where they will continue to receive treatment for their injuries from hospital staff at both facilities.
Fire crews extinguished the machinery fire with fire damage contained to a single piece of equipment, while the building sustained smoke and water damage to the production floor and surrounding areas of the building.
No firefighters or other personnel of the company sustained injuries.
