DDOT bus driver fights long road to recovery following head-on crash

DETROIT – Robert Glenn, a DDOT bus driver, is not giving up after being severely injured in a head-on collision with a wrong-way driver on the Lodge Freeway.

The December crash left Glenn with shattered legs, feet, neck, and back, resulting in intense pain and recurring nightmares of being ejected through the windshield.

Not much is known about the 55-year-old driver who struck the bus. They did not survive the crash.

Glenn’s fiance Alesia Johnson’s mother died right before his crash and when she got the call from Henry Ford Health, she rushed to the hospital ASAP, driving past the crash the very crash.

“I was so scared I was going to lose him,” Johnson recalled.

It was Glenn’s quiet strength that helps her with her loss as she helps him heal.

Glenn’s current goal is to get behind the wheel of a DDOT bus.

“I would like to serve the public again,” Glenn said. “Until the government says I can’t do it. I’m a driver. I’m going to drive.”

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family. You can donate here.
