Genesee County man joins race for Michigan’s governor

Another candidate has joined the race for Michigan’s governor.

Anthony Hudson is a truck driver from Genesee County who became a Michigander 13 years ago and quickly fell in love with the state.

According to his campaign website, he focuses on eliminating property taxes, state income taxes, the Michigan Department of Transportation, renewable energy mandates and annual auto registration.

Other topics he focuses on include bringing back natural gas, making PTO and sick time tax-exempt and protecting parental rights.

Hudson is the second Republican candidate to run for Michigan’s governor in 2026. Michigan Senate Leader Aric Nesbitt announced his bid for governor in January 2025.

Other candidates for the gubernatorial race include Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan.

Current Governor Gretchen Whitmer has reached her term limit, making her ineligible to run again.
