Employee faces felony charges for stealing over $400K from Detroit retirement system

Employee used her position to embezzle at least $460K from the retirement system

DETROIT – Evette Byrd, 52, was charged with embezzling over $400,000 from the city of Detroit’s retirement system.

Court documents revealed that the 52-year-old Detroit native is facing one count of embezzlement, $100,000 or more, a 20-year felony, and one count of using a computer to commit a crime, which is a 20-year felony.

RSCD employee Byrd allegedly used her position to embezzle at least $460,000 from the retirement system.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel charged her in January, and she was bound over to stand trial in circuit court earlier this month.

Byrd will appear in the 3rd Circuit Court on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
