Lawmakers push for school system reform after Pontiac child neglect case

Lawmakers could introduce legislation next week

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Lawmakers are pushing for school system reform after a disturbing child neglect case in Pontiac.

The lawmakers said on Wednesday (Feb. 25) that they want to prevent this from happening again.

The proposed legislation is focused on the school system and how kids are accounted for when switching districts.

When Local 4 first reported the news of the three children being abandoned for years on end, stuck in their house with no parent, a big question we got was how did the school system not notice they were missing.

They were in the process of switching districts, and as the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office put it, they fell through the cracks.

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said a bipartisan group of State House and Senate members was ready to pass the bill.
