Longtime Michigan TV news anchor to retire after nearly 37 years on air

One of the most well-known TV news anchors in Michigan is retiring after nearly four decades on the air.

Sheri Jones, WLNS TV 6 anchor in Lansing, will retire after almost 37 years serving the region at the desk.

โ€œSheri is respected and beloved by the Mid-Michigan community for her warm, steady, and compassionate presence. Her dedication to journalism is further evident through her multiple accolades and memberships in prestigious organizations,โ€ WLNS said in the announcement.

โ€œSheri Jones is a dedicated journalist, a global ambassador, and a compassionate advocate, leaving an indelible mark on both the field of journalism and the communities she serves.โ€

Jones has covered many topics in her time at WLNS, including the opioid crisis, mental health, gun safety and sex trafficking, as well as serving as the spokesperson for Mid-Michigan Crime Stoppers.

Her last day will be Friday, May 9th.

Thank you to everyone who believed in me and shaped my career and life in more ways than I could have ever imagined. It has been a privilege of a lifetime and one I will carry in my heart forever.โ€

Jones plans to write, travel, and spend more time with her father and family. Sheโ€™ll also continue to be involved in the community.
