Police warn of scam call from fake lieutenant demanding money in Troy

TROY, Mich. – The Troy Police Department issued a warning of a scam involving calls from a 248 number, where the caller claims to be a lieutenant.

In the warning issued on Tuesday (March 4), officials said the individual falsely stated that money was owed to the department.

Police are urging residents not to fall for the scam and to hang up if they receive such calls.

It is important to remember that legitimate agencies will not demand payment over the phone.
