The Monroe County Central Dispatch was advised that up to 15 vehicles had just been stolen from an automotive manufacturer in Toledo, Ohio.

It was reported that the Toledo Police Department was pursuing several of the stolen vehicles northbound on I-75 into Monroe County.

Toledo police said after the suspects crossed the state line into Monroe County, they continued the pursuit northbound on I-75.

Monroe County sheriff deputies said they set up along I-75 to assist. As the pursuit reached the Laplaisance Road exit, one of the deputies entered northbound I-75, picked up the pursuit, and took over as the primary unit.

Officials said the main vehicle being pursued at that point was a black 2025 Dodge Durango.

Police said the pursuit continued northbound on I-75 as the stolen Dodge Durango continuously made evasive actions while crossing back and forth across all northbound lanes, turning its headlights off at various points and attempting to brake check pursuing officers.

Officials said upon reaching northbound I-75 near North Dixie Highway, the suspect avoided stop sticks but began to slow as the vehicle appeared to run out of gas.

Police said the vehicle suddenly stopped south of the Nadeau Road exit, and the driver and the passenger exited and fled on foot.

The driver, a black man wearing dark clothing and a mask, jumped the median barrier and crossed the southbound lanes, running into a field on the west side of I-75.

Officials said they set up a perimeter as a K-9 and a drone responded to the scene.

Minutes later, police were on the perimeter and said they observed a suspicious vehicle pick a subject up in the back lot of the Pilot Travel Center at 1200 Nadeau Road.

Officials said upon attempting contact, it was the stolen Dodge Durango.

Police said a blue Nissan Rogue fled when a traffic stop was attempted.

Officials said the blue Nissan Rogue fled southbound on I-75 until Front Street in Monroe, where it briefly exited.

Police said the vehicle got back onto I-75, entering the wrong way. It started traveling southbound in the northbound lanes until Monroe Public Safety units successfully stopped it.

Due to being disabled by the stop sticks, the vehicle pulled to the shoulder and stopped, where the two younger black men fled on foot eastbound from the car.

Police said they attempted a K-9 track and used a drone to locate the suspects, but they were not located at that time.

Officials said the Toledo Police Department was investigating the original theft of the Dodge Durango and the other stolen vehicles.

Police said the case remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Uniformed Services Division.
