Oakland County man plans to share $2M lottery win with ‘people who mean the most’

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A 74-year-old man from Southfield is calling a $2 million Powerball prize a “blessing” for his family.

Ralph Davis matched the five white balls in the Jan. 18 Powerball drawing to win a $1 million prize, which was doubled because of Power Play. The ticket was bought at Sage Beer and Wine in Royal Oak.

“I was floored and must have looked at the ticket 30 times to be sure we were seeing it correctly,” said Ralph Davis. “Winning is such a blessing for my family. We can give more to charities and share this with the people who mean the most to us.”

Powerball tickets are $2 per play. Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. at the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee.

Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Tickets may be purchased until 9:45 p.m. the day of the drawing at retailers throughout the state. Tickets also may be purchased online at MichiganLottery.com.

Jackpot winners can choose to receive their prize in an annuity, paid in 30 graduated payments over 29 years, or a lump sum payment. Both advertised prize options are before federal and jurisdictional taxes.
