Man armed with ice pick shot and killed by Warren police, investigation underway

Police say there is no threat to the community

WARREN, Mich. – An investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed by Warren police officers Monday night.

Warren police were sent to a home in the 27000 block of Railroad Street, near 11 Mile Road and west of Van Dyke Road, at around 10:15 p.m. on March 10, 2025, for a domestic disturbance report.

A woman reported the man at the scene had a knife and left the home on foot before officers arrived.

When Warren police officers arrived, the caller said the man threatened to hurt officers with a weapon.

They began searching north of Railroad Street for the man and found him in the area of George Merrelli Drive and Lorna Avenue.

Police said when he was found, he pulled out an ice pick. In response, an officer shot the man.

He was taken to a local hospital by the Warren Fire Department and died from his injuries.

An investigation is ongoing. The Warren Police Department said there is no threat to the community, and no officers were hurt during the incident.
