Man armed with ice pick shot and killed by Warren police, investigation underway

An investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed by Warren police officers Monday night.

Warren police were sent to a home in the 27000 block of Railroad Street, near 11 Mile Road and west of Van Dyke Road, at around 10:15 p.m. on March 10, 2025, for a domestic disturbance report.

A woman reported the man at the scene had a knife and left the home on foot before officers arrived.

Garlin Gilchrist announces Democratic bid to become Michigan’s first Black governor

Garlin Gilchrist II, a Democrat from Detroit who is Michigan’s first Black lieutenant governor, announced he’s jumping into the crowded 2026 race for governor on Tuesday.

A software engineer by trade, Gilchrist vaulted from relative political obscurity in 2018 to run alongside Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and his profile has been bolstered over the past six years by working closely with one of the nation’s most high-profile Democrats.

4 arrested in hyperbaric chamber explosion that killed 5-year-old in Oakland County

Police in Troy confirmed Monday, March 10, that four people have been taken into custody in connection with a hyperbaric chamber explosion that killed a 5-year-old boy.

Thomas Cooper was killed on Jan. 31, 2025, when the hyperbaric chamber he was receiving treatment in at the Oxford Center in Troy exploded. Cooper’s mother was also injured.

Weather: Spring-like weather continues in Metro Detroit, when to expect rain chances

It’s a warmer and windier start to the day. However, we will turn cooler this afternoon as a dry cold front pushes across the region.

Increasing clouds, but remaining dry with highs in the mid-50s. It will be slightly breezy with gusts around 20 mph. Even with the cooler airmass, we are still about 10 degrees above average. However, it will be about 20 degrees cooler tonight than last night as lows fall into the upper 20s.
