Professional trade shortage in Michigan expected to last through 2030

There’s an online tool that helps connect Michigan skilled trade workers with available jobs.

The Pure Michigan site has a “Find a skilled trades job” function that narrows searches based on location, job title, and keyword.

“Employers in Michigan are now seeking talent to fill these roles more than ever before,” the page says. “With the skills you develop through professional trades careers, you can earn a great salary and benefits sooner than you imagined.”

There’s a professional trades shortage in Michigan that’s expected to continue through 2030, according to the site.

Professional trades are expected to account for more than 520,000 jobs in the state, with about 45,000 new openings each year, it says.

“Wages for professional trades occupations are 16.2% higher than other occupations,” Pure Michigan reports. “$61,000 is the median annual salary for these jobs.”

Specific areas of opportunity listed include IT, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, construction, and automotive jobs.
