Michigan State Police said a crew from the Oakland County Road Commission was blocking the left two lanes, leaving the right lane open on I-75 near Sashabaw. Traffic was at a standstill in the area.

A charter bus, driven by a 65-year-old man from Flint, was unable to stop while driving in the right lane and struck a red pickup truck. Police said this caused a chain reaction, pushing the red pickup truck into an SUV. The SUV was then pushed into a utility truck. The utility truck was then pushed into a silver pickup truck.

The bus continued into the side of a semi-truck parked on the right shoulder.

The driver of the red pickup truck, a 67-year-old man from Goodrich, died at the scene. The driver of the SUV was taken to a local hospital with a lower-body injury.

Michigan State Police said no other injuries were reported.

The freeway was closed for hours on Tuesday for investigation and cleanup.
