BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities in an Oakland County community are reminding drivers of school bus laws after two children were nearly hit by a passing car.
The children got off a school bus on Eastways near Wellsley in Bloomfield Township on Monday, March 3, 2025, and were about to cross the street when a car illegally passed the bus, video footage showed.
The police department said there has been an increased number of drivers who are illegally passing school buses, and during this school year, resource officers have issued 28 bus violation tickets.
Drivers are being reminded that in the state, they must stop at least 20 feet away when red lights are flashing, according to Michigan law (MCL 257.682).
In addition, motorists are urged to report violations to the Bloomfield Township Police Department.
