TRENTON, Mich. – A Trenton neighborhood is reeling after police made a gruesome discovery, finding a man shot dead and a woman severely injured.
The discovery was made on Monday (March 17) at a home on Elmhurst Drive, just off Fort Street north of Vreeland Road.
Chris Carney, who lives next door, described the scene as “sickening.”
“It’s sickening. I mean, it’s really sickening, and she was well-loved by everybody,” said Carney.
Carney expressed concern for the woman, who she said is well-loved by the community.
Officials said the incident began with a welfare check Monday morning. Police said they arrived at the home and discovered the tragic scene.
“I couldn’t see anything but her feet, and she crossed her legs and then uncrossed them, and then, when I saw the ambulance, or them take her to the ambulance, they had a bit of the blanket over her face,” Carney said.
Carney recounted the unsettling experience of waking up to the sight of police and ambulances surrounding the house.
“I saw all the ambulances, the police cars. I wasn’t even sure where they were. But then I saw they were at their house,” Carney said.
Carney said the man involved, Jeff, was liked by many despite occasional aggression.
“I don’t know what to say. Jeff was liked by a lot of people. I saw a lot of aggression, and we did hear arguments and out in the street actually, but he was very kind at other times,” Carney said.
One notable aspect of the investigation was the presence of numerous guns inside the home.
“He was ready. That. I mean, he was one of those people that figured something was going to happen, and he was ready,” Carney said.
Carney said she hoped that the woman who was shot was able to make a full recovery.
“I hope she’s okay. I hope so,” Carney said.
As the investigation is still in its early stages, police said they are working to uncover more details about the incident.
The community remains hopeful for the woman’s recovery and is awaiting further updates from authorities.
