Spring break season is up and running. While most colleges in Michigan already had spring break, most public school districts in southeastern Michigan are on break next week (March 22-30, 2025).

Where are Michiganders traveling for spring break in 2025?

The latest travel survey from AAA reveals that 84% of Michigan residents plan to take at least one vacation in 2025. 400 surveys were conducted in the state from January 16-21, 2025. According to the survey, almost a fifth of Michigan residents plan to travel during spring break.

The top spots for spring break travel within the United States are:

  1. Orlando, Florida
  2. Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
  3. Atlanta, Georgia
  4. Miami, Florida
  5. New York City, New York
  6. Honolulu, Hawaii
  7. Anaheim, California
  8. Tampa, Florida
  9. Chicago, Illinois
  10. Charlotte, North Carolina

The top spots for international spring break travel are:

  1. Rome, Italy
  2. London, England
  3. Paris, France
  4. Amsterdam, Netherlands
  5. Lisbon, Portugal
  6. Dublin, Ireland
  7. Oranjestad, Aruba
  8. Barcelona, Spain
  9. Tokyo, Japan
  10. Madrid, Spain

What type of vacations are popular for spring break travel this year?

AAA survey participants were asked, “What types of trip do you plan to take for spring break (if you are planning a spring break trip)”.

Here are the results from Michiganders. Keep in mind, that the participants could select more than one answer if multiple options applied to them.

  • Beach destination: 41%
  • Road trip: 29%
  • City destination: 22%
  • Theme Park: 15%
  • Resort vacation: 14%
  • International travel: 12%
  • Undecided: 10%
  • Lake destination: 9%
  • Tour: 8%
  • Ocean cruise: 8%
  • National/state park: 7%
  • River cruise: 4%

How much are people spending to travel during spring break 2025?

According to AAA booking data, the average cost for a roundtrip flight within the United States is $820, which is up 7% from 2024. The average roundtrip international flight costs $1,440, which is up 2% from 2024.

As a reminder, travelers should be aware that adults traveling even within the United States must have a REAL ID by May 7, 2025.
