Michigan’s 2025 statewide tornado drill -- What to expect and when sirens will go off

As we are starting to see our first signs of spring-like weather in Metro Detroit, it is also time to think about severe weather safety as we look ahead into Michigan’s Severe Weather Awareness Week.

The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac will initiate the Michigan Statewide Tornado Drill using NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

Emotions run high as judge rules not to bind man over in 1989 Washtenaw County murder of mother

There were audible gasps, tears and some visibly angry as Judge Karl A. Barr announced a decision in the Open Murder case against Buster Robbins.

Robbins, who appeared visibly shaken, put his hands together, still handcuffed, as if in prayer, and began to cry when the judge stated: “What I don’t have is probable cause that the defendant caused the death, and for that reason, I will not bind the matter over.

After the judge ruled, he did add, “I think there’s a lot more to this.”

Crews battle apartment fire in Macomb County

Firefighters battled a blaze at an apartment complex in Washington Township early Wednesday morning.

The roof of an apartment complex near 27 Mile and Van Dyke can be seen completely engulfed in flames on March 19, 2025, at around 6:45 a.m.

I-96 Flex Route lanes in Oakland County now available -- What to know

The I-96 Flex Route lanes in Oakland County from Kent Lake Road to the I-275/I-696/M-5 interchange are now available to drivers.

Beginning Wednesday, March 19, the left shoulders will be used at flex lanes during typical congestion in the morning and evening.

Weather: Flip flop: Warm with chance of stormy night, cold Thursday in Metro Detroit

This final full day of winter is delivering 70-day weather and a chance of nighttime storms to Metro Detroit. The first day of spring will bring rain and snow showers to Southeast Michigan.

Before the precipitation moves into Metro Detroit, we will enjoy a warm day and comfortable day. Temperatures will rise into the 60s by late morning and peak near 70 degrees in the afternoon. Southerly winds will be 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
