Macomb County authorities release details in arrest of suspect in shooting at Troy Corewell hospital

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A commander from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office spoke Thursday following the arrest of the suspect accused of shooting a man at a hospital in Troy.

The shooting happened just after 7 a.m. Thursday in the parking garage of Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital on Dequindre Road.

Troy police said a handgun was fired five times. The victim, a 25-year-old man from Troy, was struck twice.

Police said the shooting happened between two hospital employees.

The victim is currently in the emergency room being treated for his injuries. He is expected to be okay. Police said the victim was able to tell police who shot him.

Commander Jason Abro from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office said law enforcement received a description of the suspect and learned the man lives or has family living at a home on Breezeway Drive in Macomb Township.

The sheriff’s office responded to the home and saw a man matching the description of the suspected shooter there.

Abro said there were a few people living in the home the suspect was in, and police are now speaking to them. It is not known if more people were placed into custody.

The SWAT team from the sheriff’s office went door-to-door, asking nearby residents to see if they were safe as they were negotiating for the man to leave the home.

Once the man left the home, he was arrested.
