Man accused of leaving sexually explicit note on minor’s car at Auburn Hills Target parking lot

Thomas Mellick Hensler (Auburn Hills Police Department)

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – A man was arrested for allegedly leaving a sexually explicit note on a minor’s car in Auburn Hills Tuesday evening.

Auburn Hills police officers responded to the Target on Brown Road at around 6 p.m. on March 18 for a report of a suspicious note left on a person’s car.

They read the note and found it to be sexually explicit. Police said the victim who received the note is under 18 years old.

The note had a phone number on it, so police communicated with the suspect by phone. Police said the communication was also sexually explicit in nature.

The officers learned the suspect was still inside a car in the Target parking lot. They found Thomas Mellick Hensler, a 38-year-old man from Clarkston, in the car.

As he was being taken into custody, police found suspected methamphetamine.

Hensler was charged with child sexually abusive activity, using a computer to commit a crime and possession of a controlled substance. His bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety. If bond is posted, he is ordered to wear a GPS tether and is prohibited from returning to the Target at Auburn Hills or have unsupervised contact with anyone under 18.

He is expected to return to court on March 27, 2025.
