TROY, Mich. – Troy police provided an update on the shooting at a hospital Thursday morning that left one injured.
The shooting happened at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital on Dequindre Road just after 7 a.m. on March 20.
One person was shot, and the suspect has been arrested.
Troy police held a press conference at around 1 p.m. on Thursday to provide additional details on the incident.
Here’s everything we know so far
Troy police said a handgun was fired five times by the suspect. The victim, a 25-year-old man from Troy, was struck twice.
Police said the shooting happened between two hospital employees.
The victim is currently in the emergency room being treated for his injuries. He is expected to be okay. Police said the victim was able to tell police who shot him.
The suspect left the area, and police eventually found him at a house in Macomb Township on Breezeway Drive. He has been arrested.
Multiple people, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, were taken in for questioning but were not arrested.
The hospital went on lockdown after the shooting, but it has since been lifted.
What police said at 1 p.m. press conference
Troy police said they initially responded to the hospital for a report of an active shooter in the building. When officers responded, they learned it was a targeted shooting and one person had been shot.
The suspect was eventually arrested at around 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning after negotiating with authorities at a home in Macomb Township.
The victim and the suspect were friends at one point and “recently had a falling out,” said police.
A spokesperson from Corewell Health appeared at the press conference as well. He said some procedures and appointments have been delayed because of the incident.
Police said an arraignment is expected within the next 24 to 48 hours. Once he is arraigned, more information on the suspect will be released.
Police said the video of the shooting was not captured but confirmed multiple shots were fired towards the victim. A few people witnessed the shooting, and the victim went into the emergency room to get help.
