MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Neighbors who live in the area where the suspect wanted in the shooting at Corewell Health Hospital in Troy was taken into custody shared what they saw.

The suspected shooter was taken into custody on Breezeway Drive in Macomb Township.

Shawn Pardee said he was drinking his coffee when another neighbor texted him and asked if he saw what was going on outside.

When he looked out the window, he saw several Macomb County patrol cars arriving in the area and then saw authorities set up drones and a mobile patrol center.

After that, he saw SWAT, an armored vehicle, and personnel with sniper rifles arrive in the neighborhood.

Pardee spent 25 years in the military and said, based on his experience, this kind of response told him that police knew where they needed to go and were synchronizing communication.

He told Local 4 that his level of concern was low, because of the response.

“Top notch,” Pardee said when discussing the response. “People around here should feel safe. These guys do a great job.”

Pardee didn’t recall seeing the suspected shooter before today but said if he walked by him he might recognize him.

He said he saw the suspected shooter and what appeared to be an older man taken into police custody.

Macomb County Commander Jason Abro said authorities learned that the suspect lives in or has family living in a home in this neighborhood.

Another neighbor, Renee Schuppe, said she had just dropped her son off at school when she got back home and saw patrol cars driving up and down the street.

She also mentioned she didn’t recall seeing the suspect before, but pointed out that neighbors don’t really know each other the same way that they used to.

The neighbor said she saw news coverage of the hospital shooting this morning but didn’t initially think there would be an affiliation.

“At first I didn’t think there was an affiliation considering how far we are from where that happened,” said Schuppe.

Schuppe said it was concerning seeing something like that happen in her own neighborhood, but she wasn’t too alarmed because of how many officials responded.

She did say she is sick of hearing that shootings like this continue to happen.

“I’m just so sick and tired of hearing about the shootings one after another,” said Schuppe. “I have six kids that range from 24 to 10 and just knowing that these things continue to happen. It’s just terrifying.”
