WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – A registered sex offender from Allen Park allegedly had several videos of child pornography on his phone, and his family member turned the phone into police once they discovered the videos.

According to court documents, a family member of Timothy Chitwood turned over his cell phone to police in Allen Park on July 16, 2024, saying they found child pornography on it. The family member showed police what they found on Chitwood’s phone, which were multiple videos of pornography involving children.

Law enforcement executed a search warrant at Chitwood’s home in Allen Park. There, they interviewed Chitwood and asked how old he believed the girls depicted in the pornography videos on his phone were. He replied, “I don’t know, maybe 16 or 17.”

When detectives asked Chitwood if he had any pornographic videos of girls under 15 years old, he said he could not remember.

Law enforcement reviewed Chitwood’s phone and saw that not only were there multiple files of child porn, but text messages revealed he appeared to be trading child pornography with other people online.

According to court documents, the text exchanges with multiple people lasted hours.

During forensic analysis of Chitwood’s phone, authorities said about 80 videos of child pornography were found.

He now faces federal charges of possession of child pornography and distribution and receipt of child pornography.

According to the Michigan Department of Corrections, Chitwood was previously convicted on two counts of child sexually abusive activity and is a registered sex offender.
