Michigan State Police, Coast Guard rescue dog from ice

A dog was rescued from an ice shelf near the Soo Locks on March 19, 2025. (WDIV)

SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. – Michigan State Police, the Army Core of Engineers and the U.S. Coast Guard worked together to rescue a dog from the ice outside the Soo Locks.

It happened Wednesday, March 19. The Coast Guard said it received a call about a dog trapped in a boat basin. The dog’s dark fur stood out against the ice and snow.

The Coast Guard said the dog -- named Cujo -- readily accepted help. It has since been safely reunited with its family.
