TROY, Mich. – We learned much more over the weekend about the connection between the two people involved in a shooting at Corewell Health Beaumont Hospital in Troy.
Robert Paljusevic, 21, is accused of shooting a 25-year-old Troy man in the hospital’s parking garage on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
He was in court Sunday for arraignment on charges of assault with intent to murder, felony firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to the Oakland County Jail without bond.
Here’s what we learned:
How they met
The shooting victim told police that he met Paljusevic while working afternoons at the hospital about a year ago.
Paljusevic’s family said he currently works the night shift at the hospital. They believe he worked the night before the shooting.
Victim, suspected shooter were ‘friends’
Paljusevic’s family told investigators that they knew he and the 25-year-old were friends.
“They became friends and hung out after their shifts often,” a detective said at the arraignment. “The victim described the defendant as Jekyl and Hyde, and that sometimes he would be easygoing but other times he would overreact.”
They told police that there had been some sort of “falling out,” but they believed that their differences had been set aside because the 25-year-old went to a birthday party in January.
Paljusevic’s demeanor
Paljusevic’s family told investigators that he had a “short fuse” and “would often argue with people.”
The detective said the 25-year-old was Paljusevic’s “only non-Albanian friend and made it clear that his people were not to be f----- with.”
“The victim stated that there was typically a cloud hanging over the defendant and there was always a fear of what he might do and described the defendant as a bully,” the detective said.
The victim’s mother told police that Palsujevic was “highly possessive” of her son.
Coworkers said Palsujevic is “very patriotic for Albania,” “argumentative,” “energetic,” and “amped up.”
Falling out over funeral
The previously mentioned “falling out” apparently centered around the victim’s father’s death, according to the detective.
When the 25-year-old’s father died, there was a private viewing for family only, and Palsujevic wasn’t invited, investigators said.
Palsujevic was upset that he wasn’t invited, so when he went to the public viewing, he made offensive comments to the father’s body, according to the victim’s mother.
“Your ------- son would not invite me to meet you,” Palsujevic said in reference to the private vieweing, according to the mother.
FaceTime call after funeral
The detective said there was a FaceTime call between Palsujevic and the 25-year-old after the funeral.
During that call, Palsujevic urinated on funeral brochures and said, “If I do see you outside in public, don’t be surprised if something happens,” according to the detective.
What happened at arraignment
Palsujevic waived the reading of the charges and stood mute.
The attorney who spoke on his behalf said Palsujevic hasn’t had any run-ins with the law, other than a public intoxication a couple of years ago.
Since bond was denied, Palsujevic will remain at the Oakland County Jail.
He is scheduled to return to court at 9 a.m. March 31, 2025.
