Man given half-million bond after allegedly punching dad to death on Detroit’s east side

Argument escalated to violence, police say

DETROIT – A 23-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter after reportedly killing his 53-year-old father.

It happened Saturday, March 22, near the intersection of University Place and Chandler Park Drive, on Detroit’s east side. According to authorities, police were dispatched for an unknown problem and when they arrived, they found Le Mar Manassa Sr. unresponsive in the kitchen.

He died at the scene.

Police believe there was an argument that escalated and 23-year-old Le Mar Manassa Jr. punched his father multiple times in the head, fatally injuring him.

Le Mar Manassa Jr. was charged Tuesday, March 25, with manslaughter and was given a $500,000 bond.
