CLARKSTON, Mich. – Meijer is set to open a new neighborhood market in an Oakland County community next month.

Independence Market, the new 50,000-square-foot store, will open on April 30 at 5820 Waldon Road, near the intersection of Sashabaw Road and I-75, in Clarkston.

“Independence Market is committed to serving our new neighbors with value and convenience that makes it easy to get in and out quickly,” Independence Market Store Director Robert Lajcaj said in a release. “Our team has been working hard to get the store ready to open with a great assortment of local and national brand products and we can’t wait to welcome our neighbors next month.”

The store will feature fresh, high-quality grocery items at low prices, according to Meijer.

It will carry Meijer products and national brands, and customers will also be able to purchase items from several local brands, including Shaded Bloom Coffee Roasters, Allow Nourishment and Cook’s Dairy Farm.

The market will also feature the following:

  • A floral and gift shop
  • Health and beauty care products
  • Pet food and supplies
  • A cafe space that will feature coffee and Latin street food from Clarkston-favorite Honcho

About 80 people will be employed at this new store, according to the release. Meijer says that the employees will earn competitive wages and have access to health benefits and a 401(k) program that offers a company match.

Independence Market will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
