Metro Detroit family relieved after $10,000 mistake ends in refund

‘We are so thankful and grateful that this ordeal is over’

INKSTER, Mich. – An Inkster man who accidentally bid $10,000 on a coat online is finally receiving a refund, bringing relief to his family after weeks of uncertainty.

It began back in February, when an elderly and ill man was looking for a new coat. He was shocked to discover he had won a bid on a coat on the popular shopping website Poshmark. His surprise turned to disbelief when he realized he accidentally bid $10,000 instead of $100.

The money was removed from his account even though he immediately contacted Poshmark. He was reportedly told he could not get his money back.

His daughter, Jenell Mock, has been fighting on behalf of her father ever since.

“It’s been very stressful because we’re waiting to see what could come of it,” Mock said before the resolution. “Whether Poshmark is going to help us, whether his credit card is going to reverse the charge. He’s lost quite a bit of sleep over it.”

Help Me Hank got involved and contacted the Poshmark teams, who released the following statement:

“After discussing further with the customer, we have offered them a courtesy one-time refund for the order as we recognize that mistakes happen. Going forward, we’ve asked them to take extra precaution when participating in an auction during a Posh Show, as all bids are binding.”

This ordeal serves as an important reminder for people to discuss online purchasing decisions with the seniors in their lives to make sure they fully understand the details before proceeding with online transactions.

“I knew that was just totally accidental because it’s a small ladies jacket, so he wouldn’t have wanted that,” Mock said. “And then he wouldn’t have wanted to spend $10,000 on something that was only being you know sold for like $150.”
