DETROIT – An actor from Michigan is set to partake in the Detroit Tigers’ Opening Day celebrations.
First pitch
The home opener is set for Friday, April 4, 2025, against the Chicago White Sox.
Before the game begins, Southfield native, actor and Detroit sports fan, Keegan-Michael Key, known for “Key & Peele” and “Mad TV,” will throw the ceremonial first pitch.

National anthem
Brian d’Arcy James, a Saginaw native, Grammy winner and five-time Tony nominee, will perform the national anthem.
After the performance, there will be a flyover featuring an A-10 Thunderbolt II “Warthog” aircraft from the 107th Fighter Squadron and part of the 127th Wing at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, according to the Tigers.
This pregame ceremony will also include a 100-foot American flag in the outfield and a Tigers Built Different flag on the infield.
Tickets
There are still standing room only tickets for Opening Day. Other tickets are available for the games on Saturday and Sunday.
Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 12:35 p.m., with first pitch set for 1:10 p.m.

Block parties
Fans are also invited to celebrate Tigers baseball with free block parties throughout the weekend.
The block parties will be held at the following times:
- April 4: 9 a.m. through end of game
- April 5: 10:30 a.m. through first pitch
- April 6: 11 a.m. through first pitch
The block parties will include the following:
- Local food trucks including Little Caesars Pizza, Bert’s BBQ and more
- Drinks from the Molson Coors Draft Trailer and Happy Thursday Bar (Fans ages 21+)
- 97.1 The Ticket pregame show
- Performances from local DJs and artists
- Merchandise retail kiosk
- Photo and video opportunities at Built Different stations and slow motion GlamBot
- Interactive games including cornhole, giant Jenga, Plinko and speed pitching stations
