A Northern Michigan family finally got some closure in the death of Marquette teen Jordan Demay.
All five defendants charged with helping to launder money for Nigerian extortionists who targeted the teen have now pleaded guilty.
Local 4 traveled to Marquette in 2023 to speak with Demay’s parents. At that time, no one had been charged in the case.
Demay was a student at Marquette High School in March 2022 when three men from Nigeria contacted him on Instagram, pretending to be a girl.
They convinced Demay to send nude pictures of himself and then blackmailed him for money, threatening to send those photos to everyone in his life.
He tragically took his own life inside his home just hours later.
On Thursday (April 3), three men from Georgia pleaded guilty to money laundering charges.
They joined two other men who pleaded guilty to similar charges earlier this year.
The two Nigerian men at the center of the case also pleaded guilty back in September and were sentenced to 17 and a half years in prison.
