ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Detroit Zoo announced one of their beloved camels has died.
Rusty, a male Bactrian camel, was euthanized last week. He was living in the Detroit Zoo for 16 years. Before that, he was at Brookfield Zoo until 2009.
According to the zoo, Rusty formed a deep bond with his mate, Suren, and raised four offspring together.
“We are deeply grateful to our dedicated veterinary and animal care teams who supported Rusty through his later years,” said the zoo on Facebook. “Rusty will be missed by all of us at the Detroit Zoo.”
