Man tied to triple homicide on Detroit’s west side appears in federal court on gun charge

Suspect is charged with fleeing police in high-speed chase

DETROIT – A 29-year-old man under investigation in connection with the killing of two women and a child appeared in federal court Thursday afternoon.

Edward Redding had a detention hearing related to a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He consented to detention.

The bodies of Redding’s ex-girlfriend, her mother, and her 9-year-old niece were discovered last Sunday (April 6) in a burned-out car in an alley near 30th and Milford streets on Detroit's west side.

Police say the two women had been shot in the head, while the young girl’s throat had been slashed.

The bodies were burned beyond recognition.

Police arrested Redding later that day after a car and foot chase. He faces additional charges from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for fleeing and eluding police, as well as resisting and obstructing an officer.

The federal case against Redding is linked to a firearm that police say was found in his car following the chase.

As of now, no charges have been filed regarding the triple homicide. Redding is due back in federal court for a preliminary examination on April 22.
