Warren’s Victory Inn bids farewell to make way for Sheetz gas station

Local landmark to close after nearly 80 years

WARREN, Mich. – A popular restaurant in Warren is closing its doors for good Monday to make room for a Sheetz gas station.

Victory Inn, a beloved establishment, is shutting down after nearly eight decades in business.

April 14 is a bittersweet day for the owners. Beverly Suida remembers coming to the restaurant as a child. It was built by her grandfather.

Victory Inn is located at 12 Mile and Mound roads and will close to make way for a new Sheetz gas station. The owners thanked customers for their loyalty and invited them to stop in for one last drink or dish today.

Last August, Sheetz announced its plans for a gas station and made-to-order food shop in the area. The Sheetz franchise is quite popular in neighboring Ohio, and the first Michigan location opened last year in Romulus. Each store features a full kitchen that serves made-to-order food 24 hours a day.

Victory Inn’s owners have mixed emotions as they prepare to shut down.

“There will be a lot of tears tonight and hugs and kisses. That I love you all so much and I wish nothing but the best,” said Beverly Suida, co-owner of Victory Inn. "I’ll be out there, I’ll be somewhere, I’ll bartend somewhere, give my spirit to the place because I love my people."

She confirmed that she will be closing the doors Monday at exactly 11:12 p.m., to pave the way for the new Sheetz location in Warren.
