Suspects wanted in Minnesota murder arrested in Michigan

2 arrested in Marquette County after Minnesota man fatally shot

MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. – Two suspects wanted in connection with a homicide in Minnesota were arrested in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, state police said.

The murder happened on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

A man, identified as 39-year-old James Earl Hamilton, was fatally shot in Moorhead, Minnesota.

The suspect, Jerome Anthony Thomas III, allegedly fled the scene in a green Chevrolet Trax with temporary Indiana registration T194928, according to a release from the Moorhead Police Department. Police say the suspect also shot at another person.

Investigators discovered that Thomas might be hiding in the Ishpeming area and alerted Michigan State Police for assistance.

Arrest warrants were issued for Thomas and 32-year-old Abby Nicole Fredrickson in connection with the investigation, and on Monday morning, Michigan State Police located the suspects and initiated a traffic stop on M-28 near N. 2nd Street in Ishpeming Township.

The two suspects were taken into custody without incident. They are lodged in the Marquette County Jail and are awaiting extradition.

Thomas was charged with the following:

  • Second-degree murder with intent not premeditated
  • Second-degree murder in a drive-by shooting
  • Attempted second-degree murder while committing a drive-by shooting
  • Attempted second-degree murder

The 32-year-old woman, his alleged accomplice, has been charged with aiding an offender in second-degree murder.
