Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald has charged Derek Butler, an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old juvenile, with carjacking and carrying a concealed weapon in connection with the carjacking of a DoorDash driver in Southfield.

The two teens allegedly stole the victim’s vehicle, a 2023 Dodge Charger, while the victim was making a delivery.

Reports indicate that one of the defendants threatened the victim with a firearm during the incident.

Following a high-speed pursuit that exceeded 100 mph, Southfield police arrested the teens and recovered the stolen vehicle.

Officers said they discovered a gun in the center console of the car.

Carjacking is punishable by a term of any number of years in prison while carrying a concealed weapon can result in a sentence of up to five years.
