Former Macomb County Sheriff Deputy Derek Reed pleaded guilty to several charges for slapping a teenager.

Reed pleaded no contest to willful failure to uphold the law, Reed pleaded no contest to willful failure to uphold the law (a 1-year misdemeanor) and assault & battery (a 93-day misdemeanor).

The incident occurred on Aug. 29, 2023, when Reed, then a Macomb County deputy sheriff, slapped and assaulted a 14-year-old who was being transported in Reed’s patrol car to the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center in Mount Clemens.

Reed was terminated from the sheriff’s department due to the incident.

He will be sentenced on June 16, 2025.
