The discovery was made at Cramton Park, which is just west of Monroe Street in Lapeer.

City officials said sharp, man-made metal objects were found this week, and it’s the second time in less than two weeks.

The objects are described as “caltrops.” They have four sharp points and are designed so that at least one is always pointing upward.

The caltrops were specifically found near the landing area of slides, city officials said.

Police and park workers were called to the playground to investigate and make sure the area was safe.

“Due to the ongoing nature of this dangerous behavior, the city urges all individuals using the city’s park systems and playground to exercise increased vigilance,” the release says.

Parks workers checked all the other playground structures in Lapeer to make sure they were safe, according to the city. They will continue to visit the playgrounds every morning.

Anyone with information about what’s going on is asked to call the city’s parks department at 810-664-4431 or the Lapeer Police Department at 810-664-0833.
