KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A 19-year-old from Michigan will spend eight months in jail after making a bomb threat while his girlfriend was on a cruise.

According to the Associated Press, the bomb threat caused Carnival Corp. to inspect more than 1,000 rooms after the ship departed Miami in 2024.

Authorities were able to trace the bomb threat to Joshua Lowe, who reportedly admitted he sent the message because he was upset that his girlfriend and her family went on a cruise, leaving him to take care of their pets.

Lowe was sentenced Monday, April 14, to eight months in jail.

“Anyone making a bomb threat should expect to be taken at his word,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney Nils Kessler. “Fortunately, this particular hoax did not result in physical injury.”
