Westbound I-696 lane closures begin: What to know

Full closure expected for ten days in May

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A stretch of westbound I-696 will be down to two lanes for three months.

Starting 7 a.m., Monday, April 21, westbound I-696 will have two lanes open between Southfield and Lahser roads for median work.

Starting at 9 p.m. on May 9, westbound I-696 will be closed entirely between I-75 and the Lodge while the Church Street Plaza Bridge is demolished. This closure will last about 10 days.

Westbound traffic will be detoured south on I-75, west on the Davison Highway and then north on the Lodge Freeway back to I-696.

Eastbound I-696 is expected to remain closed for nearly two years, reopening in fall 2026.
