DETROIT – A speeding SUV crashed into a bus stop, killing two people, before slamming into a gas station on Detroit’s west side.
The crash occurred on Friday (April 25) at 7 p.m. after police said a gray SUV traveling southbound on Evergreen Road and Fenkell Avenue at a high rate of speed.
Officials said the vehicle veered over into the northbound lanes, then over into the bus stop area where two pedestrians were seated.
“The vehicle struck both pedestrians, continued its travel into the BP gas station on the northeast corner of Fenkell and Evergreen, and struck another vehicle that was parked at the pump,” said Detroit police Commander Ryan Connor.

Police said the driver, who has been arrested, is a woman. The victims were a middle-aged man and a woman, according to Connor, and the Detroit police Fatal Squad is investigating the incident.
“Fatal squad is responsible for this type of investigation; anytime there’s a vehicle fatality, there’s measurements that’s taken. There’s a canvas of witnesses and different types of video that we may find in different interviews that are conducted,” Connor said.
Police are working on informing the families of the victims of this tragic crash.
“It’s a tragedy. We feel for all involved, and it’s just a tragedy,” Connor said.
