Michigan Humane holds low-cost vaccine clinic at Palmer Park

DETROIT – Michigan Humane joined forces with Friends of Palmer Park to provide pet owners with an affordable option for vaccinations and microchipping on Saturday.

The veterinary care services will jumpstart a vaccination series in the city throughout the spring and summer, ensuring pets across the city can access essential veterinary services.

Hundreds of dogs and their owners were projected to attend the clinic at Palmer Park.

Hannah Freeman, a devoted dog owner, shared how her dogs Blue and Sophie mean everything to her.

Sophie is a young dog who needed some extra comfort.

“She’s getting her vaccines today and she’s getting microchipped,” Freeman said.

The clinic operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with a suggested fee of $30 per pet.

However, if pet owners are unable to pay, services will still be provided.

Although the clinic opened at 10 a.m., many people arrived hours early to ensure they could get in line.

“It reminds us that there’s just a lot of people struggling financially,” said Doug Plant, a chief operating officer at Michigan Humane. “But it also shows how much their pets mean to them. A lot of people wouldn’t brave 40-degree temperatures with 20 mph winds unless it was really important to them. It says a lot about how much people care about their pets.”

Healthy pets contribute to happy families.”
