Mark Rosenthal of Animal Magic, is a DNR-certified rehabilitator and works with police in these types of situations.
He was called by police to rescue the alligator and said it is currently about 4 feet long but could grow up to 15 feet.
Rosenthal said the alligator is missing teeth, underfed, and skinny. Most alligators run away when they’re scared, but this one charged at him twice and bit his left arm, which is unusual and suggests emotional trauma, he said.
Rosenthal is now caring for the gator.
